There is excellent OB experience available, including assisting 2 doctors who do C-sections. The ER is very busy especially in the summer, with several ER docs eager to teach. Students can get exposed to very good ortho, ambulatory peds, cardiology, geriatrics, oncology, cardiology, OB/GYN, urology, ENT, and psychiatry. Afternoons are spent in clinic with different members of the group. Sometimes an admission work-up would take precedence over clinic. Students are given more front line experience. Arrangements are also made for the students to visit the Tribal Clinic in Keshena and other clinics in the area. There is some flexibility as far as the type of experience you will have. RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES: There is good cross county ski trails within a few miles of town, or the larger systems in the Nicolet National Forest north of the Indian Reservation. In the summer, white water rafting on the Wolf River is popular. The Wolf, Red, Embarass Rivers also have good stretches for canoeing and kayaking. Watching the salmon run on the Wolf River at the dam is also a popular activity every spring. There are plenty of parks, beaches, trails. There are community recreation centers in Shawano and Clintonville that have swimming pools, exercise rooms, and courts. With a student ID - these are available at minimal charge. 2 movie theatres, cafes with "home cooking", sandwich shops, pizza & Chinese restaurants are available within walking distance of hospital. http://www.shawanocountry.com/shawanocountry/home/default.asp
