The 3 preceptorship orientation lectures can be found on Learn @ UW and need to be viewed online at: https://uwmad.courses.wisconsin.edu/ as they are the *only orientation* to your preceptorship. Take your personal health record with you (immunizations). Scheduling of your preceptorship is prearranged with your input up to four weeks in advance of starting. The first day of your rotation (Monday) is dedicated to viewing the orientation videos and Learn @ UW materials (if you have not already done so) and traveling to your preceptorship site to get settled with housing. Check into your condominium on Monday evening by reporting to the Reception Desk located in the main entrance of the Minocqua Center before 5:30 p.m.. Bring proper identification to receive key packet. Arrangements may also be made for early arrivals by contacting Diane Nyberg at 715/358-7320. Report to the Education Coordinator located at the Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center, in Minocqua, WI on Tuesday morning promptly at 8:00 a.m. In order to streamline the orientation process, please find the link to the online orientation site http://www2.marshfieldclinic.org/education/student_show/ and review the following sections prior to your arrival. *Welcome, * General Information, *Policy Training. The password is: students. After completing these sections please complete evaluation. It is necessary to complete this orientation before clinical work starts. Housing
|
Housing will be provided in shared housing with other medical students, both male and female, at a two bedroom (each bedroom has two twin beds) condominium located on the scenic Timber Ridge Golf Course south of the Minocqua bridge.

While every attempt will be made to accommodate one person per room, there is the potential that two students of the same gender may have to share one bedroom.
The condominium features an open concept kitchen, breakfast counter, living room and dining area.
A recreation room is housed in the finished basement, and includes a small kitchen and sitting area with a TV and pool table.
Two bathrooms are located on the upper floor. A closeted area in the hallway contains a washer and dryer.
FOOD: No food is provided, however; utensils, pots and pans are provided. You are expected to bring your own twin sized sheets, pillows, blankets, VCR, answering machine, radio, alarm clock, etc.
No pets are allowed, and no smoking is allowed inside. Requests for overnight visitors must be pre-authorized by the Regional Site Coordinator.
You must complete a housing contract. Any deviation from the housing rules may result in your loss of housing privileges, requiring you to find other accommodations at your own expense.

Upon completion of the 4th Year Preceptorship, students will:
1. Understand the complexities of a multidisciplinary health care system
2. Develop proficiency in providing patient care in a community setting
3. Apply principles of preventive medicine to clinical care
4. Recognize the impact of health care and reimbursement systems on the delivery of health care
5. Expand upon their personal and professional growth and development
6. Recognize the effect of quality measurement and improvement on clinical decision-making, cost of care, and patient satisfaction
Educational Objectives -
Patient Care (Problem solving and Clinical Skills)
Students are expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of health.
1. Conduct an efficient & effective clinical medicine interview
2. Describe the impact of continuity of care on health care delivery
3. Develop independent assessments and differential diagnoses
4. Negotiate management plans with patients & preceptors
5. Describe the impact of local culture on health care, wellness, the work environment, and the community

2. Locate ACIP recommendations for immunizations and describe strategies for improving community immunization rates for both children and adults
3. Describe the impact of USPSTF and other professional groupsÂ’ screening recommendations on the clinical practice of your preceptor

Students are expected to investigate and evaluate their patient care practices by appraisal and assimilation of scientific evidence.
1. Describe a local quality improvement initiative at your preceptorship site
Systems Based Practice -
Students are expected to demonstrate an awareness of the larger context and system of health care and effectively call on system resources to provide optimal care.
1. Use and refer patients to appropriate community-based healthcare resources
2. Participate in community health activities
3. Describe your preceptorÂ’s relationship to the healthcare system in which (s)he practices
4. Describe the roles of federal, state and private programs that pay for health care within the US healthcare system

Content
|
Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center has more than 50 physicians who provide care in a variety of specialties. We offer a six-week preceptorship with options to choose from various Primary Care, medical and surgical subspecialties. You may customize your rotation based on your needs if you give four weeks advance notice. ELECTIVES OFFERED: Virtually all specialties may be available. Cardiology, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, OB/GYN and Urology. The student will have an opportunity to work one-on-one with the preceptor in a busy clinic practice. You will be provided the opportunity to dictate the H&P's and discharge summaries.

CLINIC/HOSPITAL: The Marshfield Clinic - Minocqua Center has physicians providing care in a variety of specialties including Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, General & Vascular Surgery, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Oncology/Hematology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Pediatrics, Plastic Surgery, Radiology, Urgent Care and Urology. The Minocqua Center is located a short distance from the hospital.
